The Majesty of God

Sometimes when I'm skiing by myself, i like to stop and just appreciate the beauty of the snow and mountains. In those little moments, I'm often reminded of those famous 'snow' bible verses (as if i wouldn't have memorised all the verses that mention snow...) that always seem to reflect how amazing and powerful God is.

I love the rich image in Job 38 of heavenly storehouses of snow and hail that God has at his disposal. Psalm 147 describes God spreading snow like wool and frost like ashes. I crave and desire snow like a rare drug, but not only is God in complete control of it, it is simply dust to him, or pieces of paint for his canvas that is the earth.

However, for me, Isaiah 55 will always take the cake. Every time I'm around mountains, i think of these verses that remind me of not only how powerful and in control God is, but also of his amazing love for us and the joy of a future that we have in store with him.

10 As the rain and the snow
   come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
   without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
   and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
   will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the LORD’s renown,
   for an everlasting sign,
   that will endure forever.
